Route running is the great separator in wide receiver evaluation. The best WRs in the 2027 class are winning their routes before they ever make their break.

The most important technical element to evaluate is the stem — the first 5-7 yards of a route. Elite route runners use the stem to manipulate a defensive back's leverage before making their cut.

Hand usage at the release point is the second critical factor. Top prospects have developed multiple release packages that they deploy based on pre-snap coverage reads.

Body control at the top of the route is the third element. Prospects who can sink their hips and change direction quickly generate significantly more separation than those relying on straight-line speed.
